Dan Jones blogs that "Cooperation can get off the ground when people can punish cheats, and a new study shows that people choose environments that allow punishment over ones in which cheats go free".
It ain't all good news. In a variety of scenarios, the above results won't hold and humans will live up to their reputation as nasty petty back-stabbing apes (e.g. information about alternative institutions is poor).
Still, I'll take the current results as good news.
