Tonight we had a little lost Dalek, wondering lonely around dark
hallways.
Sure, it was a homicidal maniac. That goes with out saying. The pathological rage shared by all is race against the Doctor boiled over and it ran around the secret underground Utah bunker killing dozens and dozens and dozens of people.
But Rose has infected it with her humanity so it was confused, full of feelings. So it was so cute- following her around like a sad little doggie-woggie. Its little eye stalk kept drooping, dejectedly. When it opened up its can to let its slimy, mutated, disgusting and pulsating body bask in the sun, a tear came to my eyes.
I liked the script too. There was a lot of nice stuff about the Doctor and the Dalek being the same. There both the last of their race (in fact, as near as I can tell, their races wiped each other out). So the Doctor and the Dalek spent the episode competing to be the worst monster or the best humanitarian. The Doctor saves the world but dooms Rose to death by sealing her into the bunker with the mad Dalek. The Dalek takes Rose hostage and demands its release saying "what good are your emotions if you won't save the one you love".
Earlier that episode, the Doctor tells the Dalek that he is useless, the last of kind. He demands that the Dalek to kill itself. The Dalek replies, chillingly, "you would make a good Dalek".
Best of all, there were lots of little throw-away stuff to rewards
folks like me for their decades of devotion to the Doctor. They did
the Dalek-stuck-on-the-staircase joke (well, there goes our plan to take
over the world). And when the Dalek killed itself, its last words where
(of course) "exterminate". How sweet!
